A Festive Table for Sunny South Africa | A step by step guide

A beautiful table setting contributes to the ambience of a meal as much as the food and wine do, and during the festive season the pressure is on for hosts and hostesses around the globe to deliver an unforgettable occassion for family and friends.
Luckily for us, setting a festive table for sunny South Africa is about as easy as it gets. And trust us, easy has no correlation to dull, boring or basic. When it comes to December celebrations in the Southern hemisphere, keep the focus on food, friends & family and celebrate the sunshine with a simple, beautiful table setting that embraces your surroundings.
To recreate our gorgeous festive setting, simply follow these steps:
1…Lay the foundation
Begin by placing a plain grey napkin at each place setting. Simply fold the napkin in half and drape it halfway off the table. Lay your charger/service plate on top of the napkin to designate an area to each guest. We have used our ripple cake plates, which add a beautiful texture to the table and can later be used for dessert! Complete each setting with simple and sophisticated white dinnerware that’s suits the menu that you have lined up.

2…A functional centerpiece
Begin by placing serving pieces and tabletop accessories down the center of the table so that each guest has easy access to condiments and seasonings during the festivities. To continue the theme, we have used our just white serveware range, which is detailed with natural wood and cork. Two or three pinch-bowl sets, individual pebble salt and pepper shakers & a couple of oil & vinegar sets are all you need.
3…Natural décor
Whether your festivities take place indoors or outdoors, you don’t need to spend a fortune on décor that you will later put away to gather dust for 364 days. Rather take a stroll around the garden & grab some greenery that you can place into a few small metallic vases or simply lay straight onto the table.
For a special touch, add a single flower to each place setting tied with a bit of Jute for a welcome note or place setting label.

4…The finishing touch
The pièce de résistance of this table setting has to be our new matte black cutlery. The contemporary shape and sleek, sophisticated finish add a modern touch that is unparalleled by any décor we could have thrown on the table. For a casual setting, simply lay the cutlery onto the plates, or you can stick to a dinner table layout for a more formal setting.
Dot some plain white candles around the table, add a few pinecones for that Christmas –feel, and place your glassware down last to finish it off.
5…Make way for the star of the show
Leave space down the center of the table to show off your home cooked festive food! Wrap bread rolls in brown paper and casually layer on a platter, and place a serving of salad at each end of the table to allow guests to help themselves.
Voila! A Festive table for sunny South Africa 🙂
