Good old arts and crafts
Cutlery can double as a paintbrush! Create a tulip masterpiece with forks. Here’s how it works:
What you need:
- 3 prolonged forks
- Washable paint
- A few painting brushes
How to do it:
- Spread out the paint and dip the base and stalks of the fork in paint firmly and print it out onto a clean piece of paper. Continue this a few times and don’t be scared to mix colours and get creative!
- Once you’ve done this you’ve got your tulip heads now its time to paint on the stems. Take a thin brush and draw the stems. Paint master in just a few minutes.
- Tip: Be sure to get washable paint so cleaning up is stress-free!
Food art
One of our favourite ideas for kids activities must include food! Here’s a cute and fun way to have your little one loving being in the kitchen. A makeshift sushi wrap is a perfect and simple recipe, leaving anyone feeling like an established sushi chef.
What you need:
- 4 flour tortillas
- Cream cheese
- Cucumber
- Chicken strips
- Avocado
How to do it:
- Lay out the tortillas on a flat surface spread each with 3 tablespoons of cream cheese. Lay out the thinly sliced cucumber and avocado
- Fry up the chicken strips – opt for a sweet chilli spicing. Place in tortilla wrap.
- Roll up the tortilla wrap, pressing firmly as you go. Cut into four sections and there you go!
- Best served with a freshly squeezed orange juice.
Make your own character
This is fun for the whole family and a great way to coax your kids into getting into the creative spirit.
EDIBLE SNOWMEN AND PLAYFUL PEBBLES
Pebble men
What you need:
- Pebbles
- White card
- Permanent markers
- Scissors
How it works:
- Draw a few accessories or body parts onto white paper/card using your permanent marker.
- Cut them out and create your playful pebble character.
- Using double sided tape, mount your pebble characters onto card.
- Place your characters in a scene by drawing in the background or giving them additional features.
Snowmen
What you need:
- Toothpicks
- Marshmallows
- Food markers (Alternatively, opt for food colouring and a small paint brush)
How it works:
- Take two marshmallows and place it on the toothpick- be sure to leave space for one more marshmallow.
- Take a separate marshmallow and have your little one draw an emotion on the face (Try asking, so how does your snowman feel today?)
- Have your little one do this a few times (As an alternative question, ask how the snowman feels about mommy, daddy or even school)
- Place which ever head your child likes the most onto the toothpick with the two other marshmallows on and let them draw the rest of the body, whether the snowman has a suit on or a dress- let their imagination run wild.
At the end of the day, whatever it is you choose to do, the most important thing is to remember to have fun and create beautiful memories with your family… and there’s no better way to do it than in the kitchen! The kitchen will always be the heart of the home because it’s good for the body, mind and soul.
